This online project assignment provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical setting while contributing to global awareness and understanding of Sustainable Development Goals and intercultural communication.
In this project assignment, international students will collaborate to develop an engaging and educational International Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Game. The game aims to raise awareness about SDG goals and promote intercultural management skills among players.
The primary objective of this project is to create an online gamification tool using Seppo – Spark for Learning platform. Through the game, students will not only gain a deeper understanding of SDG goals but also enhance their intercultural communication skills, which are essential for effective collaboration in a global context.
For each online meeting, there was an interactive ice-breaker, followed by a short educational presentation on the objectives of the meeting. During the group phase, the groups were able to organize their collaboration as they wished (guided by the coaches (= university teacher)). Brainstorming, group research, collaborative writing and presenting were used within the group work.
Experiences and recommendations: “- Being able to quickly familiarize yourself with new tools/platforms is a must. Coordinating the respective approaches of the participating universities is complex (do we use BBB, Zoom or MS Teams? Do everyone have accounts with Mentimeter, for example? Is everyone OK with using 2-step authentication via smartphone app for every meeting?) Flexibility is also required here – if you insist on your favorite platform/tool, you won’t get far in a COIL project (!)
– Coordination between teachers must be very fast and effective and all participants should prepare themselves thoroughly. Finding time slots is always difficult – in a collaboration between several B12 joint decision-making must work well within
– If possible, the same lecturers should always take part – anyone who jumps in spontaneously does not know the group/group dynamics among the lecturers and cannot act as an effective coach.
