Students involved: 4x from Berlin & 5x from Canada
Professors involved: Prof. Sudip Rakshit (UL), Prof. Oliver Krüger (BHT)
Synchronous units: Two online zoom meetings of approx. 90-120 min each). 1: Getting to know the university/course of study/city/country; group allocation; distribution of tasks 2: Final event; presentations and discussion.
Asynchronous units: Independent agreement/coordination of the work by the students (carrying out experiments, exchanging results, exchanging literature, literature work, preparing the final presentations)
Tools used: Zoom, PowerPoint
The students worked on a research and an analytical topic in mixed groups and presented them in a lecture (recycling of biomass as biochar for wastewater treatment and determination of combustion and formation enthalpies using bomb calorimetry).
The students worked and cooperated well and independently; however, I would communicate my goals/expectations more clearly in the future; giving the students more freedom led to good results, but more could have been achieved in some areas
